Interview with My hairsista peepla (Lakaya M. Peeples)

Here's a Interview with My  hairsista peepla (Lakaya M. Peeples)

1. Why did you go natural ? I never actually wanted to be hotcombed, blow dried or relaxed. Mom used to insist on my hair being pressed once a week, pressure from work and husband and ya I ended up relaxed...and hated it. Then I got cancer, when I got a new lease on life so did my hair. I didn't have the paitience to transition.....I shaved my head.

2.How did your love ones take you going natural? Oh they were used to the "going" it was the showing up bald that shocked them. They accepted it...but even now....there are the occasional sideways comments.

3. How long have you been natural ? Total of lifetime: 33 years. From shaved head...since 2/8/00.

4. What hair goals do you have to achieve ? To grow back to 15 inches by 2014. I may not donate it this time.

5. What websites help you? I like curlynikki.com and black girl with long hair, and motown girl. There's a lot of sites but those are the top 3.

6. What advice would you give to a transitioner ? Think of your hair as a newborn child you are getting to know. Your hair will be loving, moody, fussy....at times bipolar, but its yours....love it anyway. It may have a sense of humor...you say stand up....it will lay down, you say
hang out down here, it will say "look mommy...I'm standing up!"
Get a journal and keep notes, at certain months your hair will have certain phases....its new to you too. So take care of your hair child.
Remember there is a language barrier and sometimes you have to figure out what it wants or need. Patience, and strength. And moisture, moisture, moisture....curlynikki.com for help with folks that's been there, done that. Your hair works best when you don't fight it. If it wants to be curly on a day you want it strait....be curly tha day.
Remember your hair is like your fingerprints...we all have them...we all have similarities...no one has the exact same. So general stuff may apply to your hair but you can't cookie cutter someone elses results. What works for me may not work for you, and what works for you may not work on your best friend...so find a routine that works for you and write it down in your hair journal
